We have a Cummins emergency generator that's been in service for 12 years and twice over the past year has required on site repairs. My local electrician recommended contacting Meyers, and when I did they promptly responded in were at our home the next day. (We're over an hour from Rice Lake....) Austin is the technician that showed up to do the work, and in both cases he quickly discovered the issues and replaced failed parts to get us up and running again. On the second call, he suggested he could take the broken part to a local welder to repair, rather than pay over $1000 for a replacement component from Cummins. It took a few days to get that repair done, but I can only imagine what the bill would have been if I would called our Cummins service from Duluth! Meyers is a class act, and I very much appreciate Jake and Austin and the rest of the Meyers Electric crew.Posted on Shana FraserTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Reliable, honest and dependable! Great timely service technicians and electricians, and sweet office staff that always helps to find a solution to the problem.Posted on Michael UmhoeferTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Wow, I had three small electrical projects I wanted quotes for. They grouped them together in one quote the first time, then three weeks later they sent a refined quote separating parts and labor. All I wanted was quotes for the three projects but the office manager refused to pass on the message and instead wanted me to again speak with someone from the field, which I have already done. She repeatedly said it was too complicated... one project was to replace two dimmer switches, the other project is to replace two bathroom exhaust fans, the third is to run electricity down a hill to have an outlet 30 yards from the home. Yeah, I guess they are too complicated.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a bucket truck electrician?
A bucket truck electrician is a licensed electrical professional who uses a specialized truck with an extendable boom and work platform to safely access elevated electrical systems. These trucks allow electricians to reach heights that ladders or scaffolding cannot safely access. Bucket truck electricians typically work on parking lot lighting, streetlights, overhead service lines, building-mounted fixtures, and tall signage systems. The bucket platform provides stability and precision, allowing technicians to perform installations, repairs, and maintenance safely and efficiently.
When do you need a bucket truck electrician?
You need a bucket truck electrician whenever electrical equipment is mounted high above the ground and cannot be safely accessed by ladder. Common situations include parking lot lighting repairs, streetlight maintenance, sign lighting installation, overhead electrical service connections, sports field lighting, and pole-mounted transformer work. Bucket trucks provide a secure platform so electricians can safely reach these systems and perform code-compliant work.
How high can a bucket truck reach?
Most electrical bucket trucks reach between 30 and 60 feet, though some specialized models can extend up to 100 feet or more depending on the equipment. The reach required usually depends on the type of project. Parking lot lights and building lighting often require 30–50 feet, while stadium lighting, billboards, or utility poles may require higher reach capabilities.
Are bucket truck electricians specially trained?
Yes. Electricians operating bucket trucks must complete aerial lift training, fall protection training, and electrical safety certification. Many companies also require OSHA compliance training and specialized experience working at height. Proper training ensures electricians can safely operate the boom, stabilize the truck, and work around high-voltage electrical systems.
What types of electrical jobs require bucket trucks?
Bucket trucks are commonly used for elevated electrical work such as:
- Parking lot pole lighting installation and repair
- Streetlight and roadway lighting maintenance
- Exterior building lighting
- Sign and billboard lighting service
- Overhead service connections
- Sports field and stadium lighting
- Electrical work on tall utility poles
These trucks allow electricians to safely reach high electrical components without scaffolding or climbing.
Are bucket trucks safe for electrical work?
Yes, bucket trucks are specifically designed to improve safety when working at height. Many electrical bucket trucks feature insulated booms and non-conductive buckets, which help protect workers from electrical hazards. The trucks also include stabilizing outriggers that keep the vehicle balanced during operation, creating a secure platform for electricians working on elevated systems.
How much does bucket truck electrical service cost?
Bucket truck electrical service costs vary depending on several factors including job height, project complexity, equipment required, and labor time. Typical services like parking lot lighting repairs may cost a few hundred dollars, while large commercial installations or municipal projects can cost significantly more. Many contractors charge hourly rates that include both the electrician and specialized equipment.
Can bucket trucks be used for residential electrical work?
Yes. While commonly used for commercial and municipal projects, bucket trucks are also useful for residential electrical work such as:
- Service drop repairs
- Tall exterior lighting installation
- Large property lighting systems
- Power line clearance assistance
- Security lighting installation
They allow electricians to safely reach electrical components mounted high on homes or property structures.
What is the difference between a bucket truck and a cherry picker?
A bucket truck and a cherry picker are essentially the same type of equipment. Both refer to vehicles with hydraulic booms and elevated work platforms used to lift workers to high areas. The term “bucket truck” is more commonly used in electrical and utility industries, while “cherry picker” is a more general term used in construction, tree service, and maintenance.
Why do electricians prefer bucket trucks instead of ladders?
Bucket trucks provide a stable, secure working platform that significantly reduces the risk of falls or electrical hazards. Unlike ladders, bucket trucks allow electricians to position themselves precisely near equipment while keeping tools and materials within reach. They also allow technicians to work more efficiently at height, reducing setup time and improving safety on complex electrical projects.
